Legacy of Dead Free Spins in Six Steps, Tomb to Total

In short: Legacy of Dead's free spins are a round of eight spins that opens on three or more tombs and adds one randomly drawn expanding symbol per trigger, so retriggers can build up to nine of them.

You need three tombs anywhere to start it, and after that the round mostly runs itself: eight spins, one expanding symbol picked at random, then eight more spins and another symbol each time three tombs come back.

Note: Six steps take the round from three tombs to the closing total, and after the first one your only job is pressing Spin.

The Steps, in Order

Follow these steps in order; each one is a single action with the control it uses.

  1. Step 1: Land three tombs
  2. Step 2: Read the award scroll
  3. Step 3: Press Spin to begin
  4. Step 4: Watch the chosen symbol grow
  5. Step 5: Retrigger with three more tombs
  6. Step 6: Collect the round total

Step 1: Land Three Tombs

Three or more tomb scatters anywhere on the five reels trigger the feature, and three of them also pay 2 times the total bet on the spot.

Step 2: Read the Award Scroll

The scroll names eight free spins and the special expanding symbol drawn for this round; in both of our rounds it named Anubis.

Step 3: Press Spin to Begin

Each free spin plays at the bet and line count of the spin that triggered the round, and the stake stays locked until the round ends.

Step 4: Watch the Chosen Symbol Grow

When enough copies of the chosen symbol land, they stretch over all three rows of their reels and pay on the active lines, even across gaps.

Step 5: Retrigger with Three More Tombs

Three or more tombs during the round are worth eight more spins plus one more expanding symbol, and the studio sets no cap on retriggers.

Step 6: Collect the Round Total

A Total Win scroll closes the feature; our two rounds ended on 2,650 coins and 1,025 coins, or 53.00 and 20.50 at a 1.00 bet.

Three Tombs Start the Free Spins

Three or more tombs anywhere on the reels start the free spins, whether they land in the base game or inside the round itself. Position is irrelevant, because the tomb is a scatter: three pay 2 times the total bet, four pay 20 times and five 200 times.

The same tomb is also the wild on the lines. Two tombs from the left on a line pay 10 coins per coin as a wild, while two scattered tombs trigger nothing.

Eight Spins, and Why Not Ten

Legacy of Dead awards eight free spins per trigger. The rules say it twice: "An initial 8 free spins are awarded", then, for every retrigger, "An additional 8 free spins are awarded." The client's text strings carry the same 8.

The catalogues split. Two of the six we read confirm eight; the other four contradict the rules with ten. That figure belongs to Book of Dead. Play'n GO's own page for that older game, the one starring Rich Wilde, does promise "ten Free Spins". The two games share a studio, a tomb theme and an expanding symbol, so the slip is easy to make. On Legacy of Dead it is still wrong. We do not recommend trusting a catalogue that prints "10 free spins" for this game, because the rules and the client's strings both say 8.

Which Symbol Expands from How Many

A picture symbol expands from two copies, which the server confirmed for Anubis, and a letter or the 10 from three by our reading of the paytable. Nine regular symbols can be drawn as the expander: the crowned figure with a crook, Anubis, the golden mask, the winged scarab, and A, K, Q, J and 10. The tomb is never drawn. How many copies must land before the drawn symbol expands is left vague. The rules say only that it happens "when enough of the respective symbol lands".

The paytable fills that gap, and the table below is our reading of it rather than a studio statement. Picture symbols start paying at two of a kind; the letters and the 10 need three. Play'n GO's page for Book of Dead spells the logic out for that game: there the symbol "will expand only when additional prizes can be awarded along active paylines". We read Legacy of Dead the same way, with the threshold at the symbol's smallest paying count. For one picture symbol the game server settles it: its log for our spin 4 shows Anubis expanding over two reels and paying 250 coins. For the letters and the 10, the three-reel threshold is still our inference.

Read on ; a source can change after that date without notice.

That split is the real luck of the draw. A picture expander needs two reels to come alive, and a letter needs three. The gap in value is steeper still: the crowned figure pays 62.5 times what Q, J or 10 pay for five.

Gaps Allowed on Expanded Reels

Gaps are allowed: an expanded symbol pays on every active line even when reels without it sit between its copies. The win can start on any reel, not only the leftmost one. The rules phrase it as "Special expanding symbols will pay for any winning combination with gaps allowed." Outside the feature, a line win must start on reel one and run unbroken.

Anubis expanded on reels one and three in Legacy of Dead
Free spin 4 of 8 in our first round: reel two sits between the two Anubis reels; the round's counter, caught mid-count, reads 245, and the server logged 250 coins for the spin. Source: our own screenshot.

Free spin 4 of 8 in our first round shows the rule at work. Anubis covered reels one and three, reel two held a K, a 10 and a J between them, and the spin still paid 250 coins, 25 on every one of the ten lines. Our frame shows 245 only because the round's win counter was caught mid-count on its way from 225 to 475.

Without the gap rule, that middle reel would have broken every line.

Why the Count Stops at Nine

Nine is also the number of regular symbols, which is the likely reason for the cap. The rules never say whether a symbol already drawn can come up again. The first trigger draws one and each retrigger draws another, so if no symbol repeats, eight retriggers would turn every regular symbol on the reels into an expander. The start screen sells precisely that: "Activate up to 9 special EXPANDING SYMBOLS!"

The spin count itself is open-ended. Play'n GO's game page says "the potential for Free Spins is unlimited", since tombs keep landing during the round. What the symbol draw does after a ninth pick, the rules leave unexplained. Our two rounds each ran on a single expander from start to finish. Book of Dead keeps one expanding symbol "during the entire Free Spin sequence", in its own page's words. That is the clearest mechanical gap between the two games.

Our Two Free Spins Rounds

We triggered the round twice in 205 paid spins at 1.00, played in Play'n GO's demo on . Both ran exactly eight spins, both drew Anubis, and neither retriggered.

Two Rounds in the Demo, 2 November 2026

RoundSpins playedExpanding symbolTotal in coinsAt a 1.00 bet
First8Anubis2,65053.00
Second8Anubis1,02520.50

The first round paid 53 times the bet and the second 20.5 times. Together they returned 73.50, about 48% of everything the 205 spins gave back. Both totals count the spin that triggered the round.

The game server logged the first round spin by spin, and the log shows how lopsided eight spins can be:

SpinPaid, coinsWhat the server recorded
Trigger225The base-game spin that landed the tombs
1 to 30No win
4250Anubis expanded over 2 reels
550No expansion
61,5251,500 of it from Anubis over 3 reels
7325250 of it from Anubis over 2 reels
8275250 of it from Anubis over 2 reels
Round2,65053.00 on a 1.00 bet

Spin 6 alone carried 58% of the round. Two Anubis draws in a row are a coincidence across two cases, since the rules say the symbol "is chosen at random".

The 250,000-Coin Top Prize and the Round

The feature holds the clearest route to the paytable's top prize that we can work out. One way to reach "WIN UP TO 250000 COINS!" is the crowned figure drawn as the expander and spread over all five reels. It is not the only conceivable one. The tomb wild and the crowned figure pay the same 5,000 per coin in the base game, and the rules with no market set never say whether a round is capped at 250,000. The German rules do set a cap, at 25,000 times the total bet, which is a different measure altogether. Five coins on each of ten lines, at 5,000 coins per coin, makes 250,000 exactly. In bet terms it equals 5,000 times a full ten-line stake, a multiple the studio leaves for readers to work out. At the demo's 0.02 coin it comes to 5,000.00.

Our better round stopped at 2,650 coins, roughly 1% of the way there.

Free Spins Versus "No Deposit" Offers

The two are unrelated. This game's free spins are a feature won inside a paid round, while "no deposit" spins are a promotional giveaway; the free way to play this game is the demo.

Nothing in the rules Play'n GO serves for this game mentions a spin given away without a stake. Any such offer would come from a website, not from the game, and we have read none for this page. Play'n GO's demo shows this exact round on a 25,000.00 play balance, behind an 18+ prompt, on play money only.
